AMAZED

Nova....exploring Fractals

In The Shack there is a comparison made between the complicatedness of the human soul with the intricate design of fractals. What a wonderful comparison. The Nova special is worth the time it takes to watch it. Many scientists seem to think this just happens by chance. I think there is more to it all. And yet, I believe God has included within the mystery some randomness that we create by the exercising of our freedom to choose? Fractals can be created in art as seen the picture above and in nature as seen in the picture of the Japanese Maple leaf from my garden below. My garden is full of them and they never cease to amaze me. The Shack introduced me to them and now I see them everywhere....when I am looking at my daughters....my wife....my friends...myself in the mirror and as I walk through the amazing natural world God created. Fractals will soon be falling from the sky in our area when the ground is graced with the first snowfall. Be amazed.

"His gaze moved over the garden that surrounded them. "But it really is beautiful, and full of you, Sarayu. Even though it seems like lots of work still needs done, I feel strangely at home and comfortable here."The two looked at each other and grinned.Sarayu stepped toward him until she had invaded his personal space. "And well you should, Mackenzie, because this garden is your soul. This mess is you! Together, you and I, we have been working with a purpose in your heart. And it is wild and beautiful and perfectly in process. To you it seems like a mess, but to me, I see a perfect pattern emerging and growing and alive---a living fractal."

Aw, Kent! The whole idea of fractals, and beauty that they display... they have become one of my favorite things to explore.

I downloaded some freeware, called Fractal Domains, which is fun to play around with in creating one's own fractals. I'm sure there are better programs to be had, even for a reasonable price.

A living fractal! I'll never cease to be amazed with how He is at work in us in amazing ways to transform us to be like Jesus!

Kent,
Both beautiful pictures here. I especially love the vividness of the colors of the first. Thank you for including this excerpt from The Shack about fractals. Somehow, I think I "missed" seeing the "a living fractal" part, so I appreciate your explaination of what they are.

I have a feeling I'm going to, also, begin noticing them in nature and everyday surroundings. Papa certainly is SOO creative!

Blessings,
~Amy :)

I LOVE fractals! I have the fractal of the day on my homepage and am constantly amazed at how we "instinctively" recognize things we cannot see, but they come out in our architecture and pottery and everything else!

The scientists can think it's all by chance if they want to, but I don't think they can ignore that little extra patter of their heart when looking at such intricate art.

I love how God has hidden treasure so we can explore and find it.
